Roger Pratchett has enjoyed a successful career across a range of disciplines within the agri-input sector: Technical product development, Multiple Brand marketing, UK and International Market research, Business development and Market analysis. A career of invaluable experience gained uniquely from both the client and agency businesses, which has provided a unique perspective on the sector. He founded Independent Business Resource Ltd in 2003 and now leads a team of significantly experienced individuals to focus on satisfying customer needs.

MULTINATIONAL R&D BUSINESS EXPERIENCE

Starting his career in the blue chip multinational environment of one of the Worlds leading R&D Agrochemical businesses enable Roger to progress through a range of business activities from:

  • Technical field trials development.

  • Business research.

  • Product marketing management.

A career path which covered the fundamental aspects of agronomy via on farm practical experience which provided the foundation of knowledge from which the remainder of his career developed.
In business research, the commissioning of bespoke market research projects and the sourcing of pre-existing data enabled him to develop the fundamentals of researching the market to assist internal projects.

BRAND MANAGEMENT

Later in marketing an extensive portfolio of some 14 brands covering herbicides, desiccants and insecticides provided insight into a multitude of crops, technical issues and gained him commercial acumen in the promotion and execution of campaigns to the trade and farming customers alike.

LEADING AGRICULTURAL MARKET RESEARCH AND CONSULTING AGENCY

In 1999, an invitation to join the UK’s leading agricultural market research agencies provided an opportunity to gain both broader research and consulting experience as well as man-management skills. Responsible at that time of the agri-input panel FARMSTAT Roger capitalised on key account management skills and developed business relationships with clients, to identify, respond and deliver business needs.

BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT IN ASIA

Roger gained significantly from a period of time working in both China and Japan. As trusted man manager, he was asked to manage an office in Beijing employing six Chinese nationals who serviced local business. The need to delegate effectively, utilising the appropriate skills of the team to achieve the desired objectives within budget was critical in such a very different working environment. Negotiating with businesses in China and Japan required required tact and diplomacy of the highest order combined with an appreciation of local business protocol.

THE LAUNCH OF INDEPENDENT BUSINESS RESOURCE LIMITED

In July 2003, Roger established Independent Business Resource Limited (IBR-Ltd).

Responsive to the ever changing needs of today’s business environment, IBR-Ltd provides targeted project resource to a range of business activities.

IBR-Ltd operates as an “Independent” resource employed by clients on specific projects as and when the resource is required, thereby avoiding the entrapment of permanent staffing overhead and all its associated costs. This business resource is a timely development, in a climate when many businesses have or are looking to rationalise their internal cost structure in pursuit of enhanced and profitable business performance.

    An in-depth survey of 3,000 European farmers in six countries has indicated that commodity selling pricing is the most important concern for farmers in three European countries, Poland, Hungary and the Czech Republic, with it being the second most important concern of farmers in Great Britain and France. The next most frequent concern was, unsurprisingly, the weather, which was selected by farmers in four countries surveyed, Germany, Great Britain, Poland and the Czech Republic.
